This month, your prompt is to watch the buds on the trees.
Already, the willow tree behind our village pub has burst open, sloughing off the sheath that kept the bud protected over winter. It transformed from pink to fluffy grey catkin. It then added yellow anthers, and finally it will stretch its leaves out as its final transformation.
Each tree offers a different progression. The willow budburst is flower first, leaves second. Some trees are the reverse. And some will issue leaves and flowers at the same time. Watch their progression as the trees wake up and make their transition through spring.
