Commissions
Some places deserve more than a photograph.
Princetown Press makes objects from landscapes — letterpress publications and botanical ink works drawn from specific sites, using materials foraged from the land being documented. The resulting pieces carry a place's story in a form that does real work: in trustee meetings, with funders, alongside planning applications, at institutional anniversaries.
We take on a small number of place-based commissions each year, working with land managers, estates, conservation organisations, and heritage bodies who need something that argues as well as records.
Place-based commissions
Keepsake publications — Letterpress chapbooks or pamphlets that bring together natural history, place stories, and hand-set type, with botanical ink drawn from the documented site. Made for stakeholder engagement, institutional anniversaries, or land management milestones. From £3,000.
Seasonal place portraits — A large botanical ink work documenting one season of one place, with materials foraged on site and a short letterpress text. The piece continues to evolve as the inks oxidise. From £5,000, inclusive of materials and framing.
Both commission types run across three to four months and involve ten intensive days of making. We work in Devon, ideally on Dartmoor — the geographic constraint is also where the work is most deeply rooted.
Credential: 150 concertina chapbooks made for the University of Exeter UK Treescapes project, used in land use policy engagement.
Artist editions
We work with linocut artists, wood engravers, and poets to produce professional, signed editions of their work — properly printed, properly presented. If you have a body of work that deserves an edition, we'd be glad to hear about it. Project minimum is £400. Lead time is typically one month.

Our process
- Initial Consultation – Contact us with your idea, including quantities, size, timeline, and budget. Being upfront about constraints helps us give you the best advice.
- Project Assessment – We'll let you know if your project suits our capabilities and current schedule or if it might be better suited to another letterpress printer in our network.
- Design & Quote – Once we agree on timing, we'll create initial sketches and provide a detailed estimate.
- Production – Work begins with a 25% non-refundable deposit. You'll receive progress updates and pay 50% when we start printing. For short projects, we can sometimes accommodate you visiting the workshop to see the work in progress, and capture the process for your socials.
- Completion – Final 25% payment is due within 30 days of shipping your finished work.
