Passage of text
We're often asked by poets if we can print their poems or short passages of text. Yes! We love to do this. It's calculated at our standard jobbing rate, and we can accommodate passages of text up to about 200 words. There isn't a significant difference between printing one copy or 100 as the time-consuming part is the type setting. If you need any modifications from the options below, please feel free to reach out with questions. Sometimes we can accommodate, but not always. For example, A4 is listed as the standard paper size, but both of the examples shown are A6 (postcard size). If you are planning to frame the poem, the larger paper size gives the piece a bit more breathing room, and elevates the final work (you can always trim it down to size when you get it framed, too).
You'll note the text box doesn't allow a lot of characters. We'll be in touch to confirm the text directly.
How does it work? You choose the message and typeface, and we'll take care of the rest.
What choices do I get?
1. Typeface. For longer passages, we have two typefaces we work with:
- Fournier (a refined 18th-century transitional serif typeface)
- Gill Sans (a classic British typeface, used by the BBC and OS maps)
We will set the passage in 12pt or 14pt, opting for the larger of the two sizes where possible.
2. Text. Up to 200 words.
3. Framing. Avoid the hassle of finding a frame to fit, we can sort this out for you.
- Unframed
- Framed - white or black frame (no mat)
If you have a specific frame (or style of frame), or you would like a mount (border), please choose "unframed" and handle this yourself.
4. Delivery speed.
- Standard delivery. Please allow 21 days for despatch from receipt of both payment, and the final text you would like printed. (You are welcome to send us the text before payment or after, but we cannot start the job until both are in-hand.)
- Rush orders are available (three working days to print and despatch); however, the ink may not be dry and may smudge during delivery. You are accepting this risk by ordering rush.
What choices don't I get?
- Ink colour: We use "jobbing black". It is beautiful and crisp. Custom colours are available at an additional charge and will be invoiced separately. They are not available for rush orders.
- Paper: Soft white, premium recycled paper, made in England
- Paper size: A4 - 210mm x 297mm (slightly smaller for framed pieces)
- Paper weight: 90gsm - 280gsm. Our printing is always a "kiss" impression suitable for our vintage type. We do not print with a deep ("bite") impression.
We will be in touch to confirm your order before we start printing.
