Dartmoor Oak: First Gatherings
Fourteen original works created with ink made from oak galls foraged on Dartmoor.
For centuries, oak gall ink has been the medium of permanence. It has been used to sign treaties and record history.
Each piece begins with ink made from marble-like galls formed when wasps lay eggs in oak branches. The galls were all collected from oaks growing on the high moor of Dartmoor.
The largest works are completed with letterpress text exploring oak's deep relationship with Dartmoor. The text is hand-set in metal and wood type and printed on heritage presses.
Framed specimens from £550, all including professional conservation framing. Original botanical ink specimens with letterpress text on handmade Barcham Green paper (watermarked: RWS 1981). Greeting cards on 100% PCW recycled UK paper.
Original works. No reproductions will be made.
