Oak Broadsheet
A broadsheet is a single large sheet printed on one side - traditionally used for proclamations, news, and educational texts. This A4 letterpress broadsheet brings together all four passages about oak that appear on our largest collection pieces: botany, history & etymology, lore, and ink-making.
Hand-set in metal type and printed on our 1910 vintage treadle press, this piece works well as a framed companion to any work in the collection, or on its own as a reference guide to oak's deep relationship with Dartmoor.
The same text appears on the backs of our oak greeting cards, but this broadsheet format allows you to display the complete story in one elegant sheet.
Text includes:
- Botany: Oak's distinctive features, mast years, and a selection of the species it supports
- History & Etymology: From Celtic duir to the pollen record of oak's 9,500-year presence on Dartmoor
- Lore: The oak king, cycles of rebirth, and connections to time and memory
- Ink: The centuries-old process of transforming oak galls into permanent ink through iron and chemistry
Single-sided letterpress printing on British-made recycled Five Seasons paper, which is a soft butter yellow. It is ready for framing.
All of our papers are recycled, and British where possible. We can provide you specific details on certifications each paper has, and the mill where they were made.
