Acorn & Mire

During the pandemic, many British paper manufacturers pivoted from creating stationery products to other important products (mainly toilet paper and board for boxes). One of the largest remaining paper mills closed its doors. This has had a devastating effect on the local production of paper and the ability for stationers to offer you locally-made products which support local manufacturing and which keep jobs, and money, close to home.

Acorn & Mire was born out of a desire to support, promote, and nurture the remaining paper mills and merchants in the UK. We only use UK-manufactured products for this range.

Why stationery? The greatest gift we can give a person is time--time and happiness. There is great anticipation and delight in opening mail which doesn't contain a bill (and especially not an energy bill), and does not have a read receipt.

Acorn & Mire is a product line from Princetown Press. We've done the research for you to find the best recycled papers the UK has to offer. The papers we use are luxurious, unique, soft papers. They are most satisfying to use with a smooth pencil, or a broad fountain pen.

To this paper we apply our craft--letterpress printing--to create stationery the old fashioned way: with metal and wood and maximum effort. We print old-school correspondence cards that give you a hint of what to write about, but leaving the voice of the greeting to be your own. The cards are printed using truly traditional methods--a kiss of an impression to leave just enough ink. This ensures the protection and longevity of our metal and wood type. (There are fewer than two dozen manufacturers for type left in the UK.)

But it's not about clinging to the past--rather it's about offering an alternative to rapid, mass consumerism. It's about supporting your neighbours, and gifting your friends by reminding them your friendship is deeper than cheap and fast.

A portion of the sales from Acorn & Mire are dedicated to forest and hedgerow regeneration; and peatland-related projects.
