Heritage printing - private workshop

  • £250.00

At our studio you will experience the precision and joy of creating hand-set, hand-printed items with heritage letterpress techniques. Even if you've never set foot in a print studio, you will have no problems creating your printed items.

You can come with ideas, or without. Either way, we'll teach you the basics of letterpress printing and introduce you to our favourite studio processes for dealing with overwhelm and decision paralysis.

- Half day: You will be able to choose to print a notebook (perfect for gratitude journals, note-taking, green sketching, or gift giving); or cards (single design).

- Full day: You will have enough time to complete a multicolour design, a larger poster, or many small items of the same design.

It really is okay if you've never printed anything before. Most of our students are first-timers at the press. We'll walk you through everything you need to know (and leave out the stuff you don't need to know).

After you've purchased your private workshop, we'll be in touch to discuss dates. If we can't find a mutually agreeable date within a reasonable amount of time, we will issue a full refund. The usual cancellation policy applies. You are welcome to invite a friend to your private workshop at no additional fee. (There is no discount if it's just you; we just know it can be scary to do things alone and that you might want to share this experience with another person.)

This also makes a GREAT gift. Simply let us know in the "notes" section when you're making the purchase and we'll send you a beautifully printed gift certificate that you can give to the lucky recipient. Note: if it's close to the deadline, please purchase a Gift Certificate instead and the recipient will receive an email-based gift card.

Workshop participants will have access to 15% off all Princetown Press products during their time at the studio.

The workshop is open to everyone. The workshop is held at Duchy Square in Princetown. The venue is wheelchair accessible, but the presses are designed to be used while standing and there is limited seating. Please get in touch if this will be challenging for you, and we can talk through what accommodations might improve your experience in the studio. Printers under the age of 18 will probably benefit from having an older helper with them. Please be aware that our metal type contains lead, and that our machines are, well, very heavy duty. If you're unsure, please use the contact form to get in touch and we'll see what accommodations would be appropriate.

We will do everything we can to accommodate vulnerable workshop participants. This includes masking, keeping the window open, and having hand sanitiser available. You may be asked to wear a mask whilst in the workshop. We hope this is not an imposition, but if it is not possible for you to wear a mask, please book a private workshop instead.

Yes! Private workshops are available, and are a great option for friends, couples, and families.

The studio is tiny. We cannot accommodate more than four people working on a maximum of two projects. If your group is more than two people, please think carefully about how your group works together in tight spaces before registering.

Yes, kids are welcome! Generally speaking, the older the kids, the more likely they'll have the attention span for a multi-hour workshop. You know your little ones best, though.

To book a private workshop: register here, and we'll be in touch to find a mutually suitable date (generally the lead time is 2-3 months). If we can't agree on a date, you will receive a full refund. Once the date is agreed in writing (email), the standard cancellation policy will apply.

If you're not sure, please reach out *before* you book a private workshop.

Princetown Press reserves the right to cancel a workshop.

We require at least 3 days notice of cancellation to receive a full refund. Any cancellation less than 3 days prior to the workshop, will receive a workshop credit good for 60 days for any available workshop of equal value.

If you are more than 45 minutes late, you will be considered a “no show” and it will be too late to receive a refund, workshop credit or begin typesetting & printing at this point.

Full day: 10AM - 4PM
